There are 6 units in each of Foundation and Higher GCSE Maths. Based on this, you may know the level to work at.
Units 5 and 6 of Foundation overlap with units 1 and 2 of Higher. So students can move seamlessly from Foundation to Higher as they progress.
The Foundation units are suitable for Year 6 students and older.

Ideally, students should complete some maths work every week. Little and often is better than lots all in one sitting.
Each module is split into a test, a lesson and a question bank.
Students can start by completing a test. Whilst students need to get 80% to pass the test, it is an opportunity to identify what students know and where they have gaps in their learning.
Once they have done the test, they then only need to complete the lesson sections and question bank questions for the sections they got wrong in the test.
The test can be repeated up to 6 times as learning progresses. If at the end of 6 tests students are still not understanding the work, they can get additional support in the course ‘My extra help’. This is a section designed specifically for each individual student where they need additional help and support.

There is no time limit for when modules need to be completed, there are no actual deadlines. Students decide for themselves. Of course, the main deadline is when the student has their final exam, usually at the end of Year 11.
Some students only complete work within tutorial time, some students complete work in between tutorials. Some students work entirely independently.
Tutorials are a good point of contact with time set aside for dedicated maths work, with a tutors support, but are not a compulsory part of Maths Magician.

Subscriptions are £10 per week with a flexible option to book an online lesson as required. (Usual price of an online lesson is £30, but each week you can book a lesson at the reduced price of £20, to take into account the subscription payment already paid).
Students can access any of the modules they need provided there is a live subscription, or they are accessing weekly tutorials. Therefore, if a student only needs help with a few modules, the subscription can be paid until those modules are completed.

Other students are on the course, but students do not interact with each other.
In Maths Magician there is a ‘Level-up’ incentive that awards points and badges to students as they complete content. There is a competitive element with a leaderboard, but all other students appear as ‘Someone else’ on the leaderboard.
New students should be aware that they will start at the bottom of the leaderboard and their aim is to progress up the leaderboard, but not expect to be at the top necessarily.
